Tom Phillips CBE. RA is an artist with an international reputation whose work features in major museums around the world. He is especially well known for his pioneering contribution to the artist's book, A Humument, which has been continuously in print for twenty-five years, and for his massive deluxe edition of Dante's Inferno in which he illustrates his own translation. His activities extend into other cultural fields such as TV direction, stage design and exhibition curating. In the realm of music his compositions (including the opera Irma) have been widely performed and issued on CD. In public life best known as the Chairman of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy , he also serves as a trustee both of the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
